"As you are all aware we host a number of major events throughout a season and as with most sports we rely heavily on volunteers. There are a number of important responsibilities for volunteers at our major events and one key position is Umpire. I am currently seeking "expressions of interest" from people who are interested in becoming an official umpire. The process has a few levels depending on how far the individual wants to go however our initial training programme will be either over a weekend or a series of evenings and will cover the laws of badminton etc with an exam. Providing a 70% pass is achieved the individual will have obtained a level 1 Association umpire certificate.
We are very keen to develop more umpires so please promote this opportunity to all of your members. Anyone who is interested should email me directly, I will then communicate with a date and time. Dorothy Callister our most experienced umpire and tournament referree will facilitate the programme".
